چکیده

Cytological studies on the root-tips of four clones of Gongronema latifolia Benth. were conducted to identify cross-compatible clones for possible improvement through hybridisation. The results showed that the diploid chromosomes number in G. latifolia was 2n = 16. Clones, IMS-20-NJIABA, AKS-33-EKPENE EDIENE, ANS38-AWKA and ENS-47-MBU used in the study had 2n = 16, 2n = 16, 2n = 24 and 2n = 20 chromosomes, respectively. This showed that ANS-38-AWKA and ENS-47-MBU are polyploids. Chromosomes were metacentric and submetacentric, with only a pair of subtelocentric chromosome in ANS-38-AWKA. Chromosome lengths ranged from 4.03 to 4.28 μm, and were generally of the B-size. The F values ranged from 21.76 to 49.87%. Chromosomal variations among the clones suggest presence of high levels of cross incompatibility between clones that are not of the same ploidy level. Hence, only clones IMS-20-NJIABA and AKS-33-EKPENE EDIENE that are of the same ploidy level will be cross compatible.

Chromosomal studies of species of Rubiaceae (A. L. de Jussieu) from the Brazilian cerrado

The chromosomes of 14 species belonging to two subfamilies of the family Rubiaceae collected in the Brazilian cerrado were studied. In the subfamily Ixoroideae, five species (Alibertia concolor, A. edulis, A. sessilis, Genipa americana and Tocoyena formosa) had a chromosome number of 2n = 22 and one (Amaioua intermedia) showed polyploidy, with 2n = 66. All of the chromosome numbers were multipl...

Heterogeneous chemosensitivities of subpopulations of human glioma cells in culture.

Six karyotypically distinct clonal cell lines isolated from each of two freshly resected human malignant gliomas were examined for heterogeneity of morphology, in vitro growth rate, and chemosensitivity to 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea and cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II). Each clone was identified karyotypically as having come from the parent tumor. The karyotypic deviations were prima...

Morphological and Morphometric Variations of Erythrocyte in Clarias Gariepinus, Bufo Bufo and Agama Agama Using Some Histological Stains

Introduction: Erythrocytes are highly specialized and the most abundant cell type in vertebrates’ blood. Their main function is the transportation of oxygen to tissues of the body via hemoglobin. Methods: The study was aimed at evaluating erythrocyte morphology in Clarias gariepinus (Cg), Bufo bufo (Bb), and Agama agama (Aa) using different stains; Also, morphometric analysis of erythrocyte w...

Karyomorphology and karyotype asymmetry in the South American Caesalpinia species (Leguminosae and Caesalpinioideae).

With the purpose of addressing the pattern of karyotype evolution in Caesalpinia species, chromosome morphology was characterized in five species from Brazil, and karyotypic asymmetry was analyzed in 14 species from South America. All accessions had the chromosome number 2n = 24, which was first described here for Caesalpinia laxiflora Tul. and Cenostigma macrophyllum Tul. The karyotype formula...

Karyotype evolution and multilineage involvement of Philadelphia chromosome-positive clones in blastic transformation of two patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia.

Simultaneous analysis of the cell morphology and karyotypes on single colonies was carried out in two patients with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph1)-positive chronic myelocytic leukemia in blastic transformation in order to clarify the origin of leukemic cells involved. Patient no. 1 was in a typical myeloblastic transformation and patient no. 2 in "basophilic transformation." Both patients exhibi...
